# 4 : 13 for '13 hair challenge!

HEY BABES!

I hope everyone had a bangin weekend.  Mine was to the brim with awesome, and included #4 in my HAPPY NEW YEAR HAIR CHALLENGE 2013 AMAZING!

Inspiration-  Emerson Spring/Summer '13 NYFW

Emerson s/s '13

Surprise surprise, of course I have to feature a few braided styles in this here hair challenge.  Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE a good braid, and on the Emerson runway the braids everything good.  What makes this look unique is the draping of the braid across the forehead, creating a BANG effect.  This inside-out french braid starts in the back of the head, parallel to the ear and favoring whichever side feels natural.  I sectioned off the bottom half of my hair (everything below my starting point), and tied it off to keep it out of the way while building my braided bang.  This creates two distinct top and bottom halves, giving you control over what hair gets braided and where (ex: all hair on top drapes towards the front, likewise in the back).  Once all the top hair was braided and I reached the opposite ear, I released the bottom section and continued into the back.  Finishing this style is a dream:  anything goes.  I tucked my tail into a tiny braided bun, but get creative and try something diff!
And keep your plaits playful:  rough your crown up slightly using your fingertips lightly against the grain of the braid.
Here's my Emerson variation:

I hope some of my fearless theorists try this one at home!  Keep practicing, send any questions or comments, and stay tuned for #5 COMING SOON!

SIDENOTE: Golden Globes 2013

You know how much it sucks when some girl at the party is wearing the same dress as you?
I mean, its okay, we always look better in it anyways.

BUT LADIES, YOU SHOULD FEEL THE SAME DISAPPOINTMENT WITH YOUR HAIRSTYLE!

Where is your hair pride, Hollywood?

Megan UNORIGINAL Fox

Heidi Klum

Isla Fisher

Nichole Richie, that dress was spectacular.

Jessica Alba, love the color though.

Jenny from the block.

Kelly Osbourne, lost in a sea of samely styled starlets,
still so cute.

MY FAVES:

Amanda, this is exactly how I would wear my hair too!

LUCY PERFECT EVERYTHING

It may just be my love for Django Unchained,
but Kerry Washington can do no wrong.

Whatever, Hollywood.
TTYL,
MEG

CHALLENGE #3 OF 13:: VENEXIANA

We meet again today for Hair Challenge #3 of 13!

INSPIRATION: Venexiana spring '13, NYFW.

Models, Venexiana spring '13 NYFW

The difficulty level of this simple looking style is surprisingly challenging.  My amazing friend, Karli, and I tried this one several times each before I finally had some luck with it over the weekend.  My shoulder length hair lacked the coiled impact of Venexiana's thick twists, but for my longer length lasses this is your lucky look.
Start by parting your hair down the middle.  Take one of your halves (tie the other off for now), and beginning at the temple twist up and back, gathering only from the hairline as you move towards the nape.  Secure your first twist with an elastic and repeat on the other side.  I'd be lying if I said getting these slick twists symmetrical was easy, so try not to get frustrated.  Bobby pins and hairspray can help you manipulate and match up your twists.  Take the pigtails you've created and meet them in the middle with a third elastic.  TOPSY-TAIL the pony you just made and pin loose ends into the crease of your coil.  TRY IT!

My Venexiana variation!

Show me what you're working with, my twisted sisters.  Share any trials and variations with me at: meghan.laura.harrington@gmail.com, and be featured here on THE BANG THEORY!

STAY TUNED, trusty theorists.
I've got 10 more treats to share with you before the month is over.

All my love,
Meghan

HAPPY NEW HAIR: Get it?! ☜

Here's the second installment of my HAPPY NEW YEAR HAIR CHALLENGE!

Numero dos of 13 for 2013 runway hairstyles is inspired by both Marc (by Marc) Jacobs, and Dolce & Gabbana:

Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2013

Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2013

Dolce & Gabbana spring 2013

Oh my daring darlings, I certainly do love a good head scarf.  On the spring '13 runways colorful cravats crowned unfussy updos.  Wear your scarf folded wide and think BIG for the back!  If I had stepped out of my comfort zzzone, I would have worn all my hair away from my face.  Shortcomings shmortcomings, this one was fun to wear!

See you soon!

START OFF WITH A BANG! 13 'dos for the dawn of 2013 ☼

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRIENDS!

& HAPPY HAIR CHALLENGE!

In honer of the new year and resolutions and starting off on the right foot, I've given myself a little hair challenge: 13 different hairstyles this month for 2013.  All are inspired by the spring '13 fashion runways, the first being Moschino at fashion week in Milan.

Moschino spring/summer '13, Milan fashion week

Retro is always super sexy, especially for spring.  But a bump this beautiful can also brighten up a cold winter work day!  Create a dramatic side part that goes only a couple inches back from the hairline.  Backcomb the rest of the hair to form your bump, smooth the hair on the sides, and secure a half-ponytail at the occipital bone.  You can use the tail end of your teasing comb to reshape your bump after its secured.  Use a curling iron, or make your own variation using your natural texture.

#1: MOSCHINO

Stay tuned for the next look in my New Years challenge,
I'VE ONLY GOT 25 DAYS LEFT!

See you soon,
Meg

Tis the Season:: HOLIDAY HAIR GUIDE!

GREETINGS, festive friends!  With under two weeks until Thanksgiving, and barely seven weeks to Christmas, the holiday season is here once again.  To me what thats means is its TIME TO DECK YOUR HAIR!  Our schedules get packed in these upcoming weeks with parties, dinners, afterwork drinks, etc, and we don't always have the extra time and energy to fancify for the festivities.  Thats when I come in:  HAIRS SOME IDEAS!

GOT FIVE MINUTES?
TRY A DEEP SIDE PART:

Lanvin, fall '12

Marc by Marc Jacobs, fall '13
Superpolished.

Nina Ricci, amazing pout!

The deep side part is seriously the simplest way to wow, and the fastest!  Flip hair upside down and tussle to create texture and volume.  Take a comb, draw your horizontal part line just below the bend of your head on the side.  Smooth over to the opposite side (continue into a sleek pony if you choose), secure with hairspray.  Here's my girl, Julia's polished part!
I swear this took two seconds.

Julia!  Just above the shoulder-length hair.

Wear your hair half-up,
WORK YOUR WAVE (or whatever texture you have)!

A Pucci princess crown of plaits, spring (?)'13.

GUCCI GUCCI
fall '12

I'm totally in love with both these angelic looks on the PUCCI/GUCCI runways.  Not gonna lie, definitely wearing one of these to my family's Christmas party this year.  Build some texture same as before (see above, you just read it!).  For the braids, take a square inch section just above both of your ears.  Braid both individually, then cross and pin on the opposite side.  DONE!  For Gucci girls, take sections on both sides of your part, twist, secure.  Check out Katie's version:

Variation is cool, wear your bang behind or in front of your braid!

Gucci, gucci, twist.

WHEN IN DOUBT, leave it to the pros.
Schedule a big BANGIN' BLOWOUT to keep stress at a minimum, and glamour on max.  Ask for something suitable for a special occasion, but keep it soft and moveable.

Voluminous at Versace, fall '12.

Gorgeous, Julia!

See loves?  Looking fashionably festive this season doesn't have to be as hard as it looks!  As always, keep it simple, practice before party-time, AND COME SEE ME SOON!  Book your blowout or upstyle with me ASAP, as I'd love to fit all of you darlings in before we fill up completely.
Here's to the beginning of a safe and happy holiday season.

xoxo,
Meghan
